Powdered Metal Small Planetary Gear Drives

At Allied Sinterings, Inc., we can manufacture and assemble small planetary gear drives up to 1.5″ in diameter with diametral pitches up to 120 that meet up to AGMA Class 8 tolerances. Compacting processes range in force from 0.5 to 50 tons and can be used to create gears in a variety of materials and strengths.

PLANETARY GEAR DRIVE MATERIALS AND FINISHING OPTIONS

Allied Sinterings can manufacture planetary gear drives in the following materials:

  • Stainless steel
  • Nickel steel
  • Copper steel
  • Brass alloys

Finishing options include:

  • Machining
  • Resin or oil impregnation
  • Heat treating
  • Tumbling

When manufacturing planetary gear drives, powdered metal offers a few key advantages:

  • Versatility that allows for complete customization to provide desired material properties.
  • A near net finish that often doesn’t require any additional machining (if additional machining is necessary, most processes used on traditionally machined components can be applied to powdered metal parts).

While powdered metal manufacturing offers many advantages to traditional fabrication and machining methods, there are constraints to the geometries that can be achieved. We can train designers and engineers at customer facilities on the proper way to design using powdered metal manufacturing guidelines. In addition, our engineers can assist customers in converting current gearing to powdered metal.

We are ISO 9001:2008 certified and can handle all necessary dimensional inspection. For more information about our small planetary gear drive manufacturing capability, see the table below, or contact us at (203) 743-7502.
